abstract = "The study of the morphometric characterization is very important
to understand the hydrological and environmental dynamics that
occurs in the watershed. Thus, the present work aims at
quantification for such morphometric characteristics (area,
perimeter, length of all channels, drainage density, main course
length, channel hierarchy, compactness coefficient, form factor,
index of circularity, altimetry and slope) and from this, to carry
out an analysis of the results presented with the purpose of
determining the flood susceptibility, this data obtained were
generated through the use of ArcGIS 10 software. In this way, to
the geometric characteristics it was found 2,776.71 kmē basin
area, 392.79km perimeter, the coefficient of compactness was 2.36,
the form factor was 0.17 and the index of circularity was 0.18. In
relation to the characteristics of the drainage network it was
found 542.66km extension of the water courses, 0.25 drainage
density, 112.32km extension of the main river and the hierarchy of
this watershed showed that the maximum classification of the
channels was 4th order. In respect to the topographic
characteristic, we identify that the hypsometric amplitude was 104
m and there is also predominance of flat surface. However, it was
possible to verify that the watershed of the Caet{\'e} River has
a low drainage density and according to the results of the
topographic characteristic it was possible to determine that it
has a low flow velocity and, in agreement with all the generated
data, it was possible to classify the basin with low flood
propensity.",
